Course Overview

Supporting people to move safely is an important part of disability support. Using safe manual handling techniques helps reduce the risk of injury for both participants and workers while promoting independence, dignity, and person-centred care.

This course provides practical guidance on safe movement and manual handling principles commonly used in disability support settings.

Why Take This Course?

Manual handling injuries are one of the leading causes of workplace injuries for disability support workers.

Coercive control is a form of ongoing abuse where a person uses manipulation, intimidation, isolation, threats, or controlling behaviours to limit another person's independence, choices, and freedom. Unlike physical violence, coercive control is often subtle and develops over time, making it difficult to recognise. For people with disability, the risk can be even greater because the abusive behaviour may occur within relationships where they depend on others for care, support, or daily living.

This course provides support workers and carers with the knowledge and practical skills to recognise coercive control, understand how it affects people with disability, and respond appropriately. You will learn how controlling behaviours can be disguised as care, identify warning signs, understand the impact on a person's safety and wellbeing, and recognise situations where additional support or reporting may be required.

The course also explores the legal recognition of coercive control in New South Wales, including the responsibilities of disability support workers to identify concerns, protect participants, and follow appropriate reporting processes.

This course provides practical, easy to understand guidance on incident management for frontline disability support workers. It is designed to help you recognise, respond to, document, and report incidents while protecting the safety, wellbeing, and rights of the people you support.

Working in the NDIS means every worker has a responsibility to identify risks, respond appropriately to incidents, and take action to prevent harm. This course explains these responsibilities in a clear and practical way, giving you the confidence to manage incidents safely and professionally in everyday support settings.

Throughout this course, you will learn how to identify different types of incidents, recognise the signs of abuse, neglect, violence, and exploitation, understand the difference between general and reportable incidents, respond appropriately when an incident occurs, and accurately document and report incidents in line with organisational and NDIS requirements.

Please note that this course discusses topics including abuse, neglect, violence, and other potentially distressing situations. While the content is presented professionally and respectfully, some learners may find these topics sensitive.

This course is suitable for support workers, support coordinators, team leaders, frontline managers, and anyone providing direct support to NDIS participants who wants to strengthen their knowledge of incident management and their responsibilities in creating safe, person centred supports.

Active Support is a person-centred approach that focuses on helping people with disability participate actively in their own lives. Rather than completing tasks for a person, Active Support encourages workers to provide the right level of assistance so individuals can be involved in everyday activities, make choices, and develop new skills.

This course explores the key principles of Active Support and how they can be applied in practical support settings. Participants will learn how meaningful engagement contributes to improved wellbeing, independence, and quality of life, and how small changes in the way support is provided can lead to better outcomes for the people they support.

Through practical examples and real-world scenarios, learners will develop strategies to encourage participation in daily routines, community activities, communication, decision-making, and skill development. The course also examines how to identify opportunities for engagement and tailor support to meet each person's individual needs, goals, and abilities.

By the end of this course, participants will have a greater understanding of how Active Support can be used to promote independence, choice, inclusion, and meaningful participation in everyday life.

This short and practical training module helps Support Workers understand their responsibilities around protecting a participant’s privacy and confidential information while working within the NDIS. The course explains how to recognise private and sensitive information, when information can or cannot be shared, and the importance of maintaining a participant’s dignity and rights at all times.

Throughout the module, Support Workers are guided through real workplace examples and situations relevant to their role, helping them understand how to meet NDIS Standards, the Code of Conduct, and privacy legislation. Participants will also learn the circumstances where information may legally be shared without consent and how to handle sensitive information professionally and respectfully.

Designed for Support Workers who regularly access participant information, the course includes an online learning module, practical scenarios, and a certificate of completion. The training takes approximately 25 minutes to complete and provides clear, easy-to-understand guidance that can be applied directly in day-to-day support work.
