Course Overview

Learn how to support participants with their money and personal property in a way that respects their rights, promotes choice and control, and aligns with the NDIS Practice Standards.

Why take this course?

Money and personal belongings are an important part of everyday life. As a disability support worker or team leader, there may be times when a participant trusts you to assist with their finances, purchases or personal property.

These situations are not always straightforward. Every participant has different support needs, preferences and decision-making abilities. Workers may also need to consider dignity of risk, duty of care and supported decision-making while ensuring the participant remains involved in decisions about their own money and belongings.

This course explores the responsibilities of frontline workers and leaders when supporting participants with the management, storage and use of money and property in accordance with the NDIS Practice Standards.

It also looks at the importance of clear documentation, appropriate professional boundaries, practices that should be avoided and ways workers can support participants to make their own financial decisions while reducing the risk of exploitation.
