Course Overview
Build the knowledge needed to safely support people who experience swallowing difficulties, including understanding modified food and drink textures, following individual mealtime plans and recognising potential signs of choking or aspiration.
Why take this course?
Mealtimes are an important part of everyday life, but for a person with dysphagia, eating and drinking can involve additional risks that require careful support.
Support workers need to understand how dysphagia can affect a person’s ability to swallow safely and recognise early signs that something may be wrong. Providing the right support can help make meals safer while still ensuring they remain enjoyable, dignified and centred around the individual.
This eLearning explores the practical knowledge required when supporting someone with dysphagia. You’ll learn about safe eating and drinking, texture-modified foods and fluids, following prescribed mealtime support strategies, and what action to take if a person experiences choking or signs of aspiration.
