Course Overview
Build the practical knowledge needed to safely support a person who uses a urinary catheter or external drainage device, while maintaining their comfort, privacy and dignity.
Why take this course?
Supporting someone with a urinary catheter requires specific knowledge and care. It is considered a higher-risk support under the NDIS, so workers need to understand both the practical responsibilities involved and the boundaries of their role.
This course introduces the urinary system, why the body needs to eliminate urine and what can happen when a person is unable to do this naturally.
You’ll explore practical approaches to supporting people who use urinary catheters or external drainage devices, including everyday care, maintaining hygiene, recognising potential problems and knowing when concerns need to be reported or escalated.
Throughout the course, the focus is on providing support that is safe, respectful and within your scope of practice, while protecting the person’s privacy, dignity and comfort.
