Course Overview

Develop the practical knowledge needed to safely support a person with an ostomy or stoma, including everyday care, pouch changes, recognising common concerns and knowing when additional medical support may be required.

Why take this course?

Supporting someone with an ostomy or stoma involves more than completing a care task. Workers need the right knowledge and training to provide support safely while protecting the person’s privacy, dignity and comfort.

This course explores the practical aspects of ostomy and stoma support, including cleaning and caring for the stoma, changing an ostomy pouch and responding to common problems that may occur during everyday care.

You’ll also learn what to look out for while providing support and when a change or concern should be reported or escalated for further medical attention.

Throughout the course, the focus remains on providing safe and respectful support while following the person’s individual care requirements.
