Course Overview
Explore how support workers can protect and promote a person’s right to make choices, have control over their support and be involved in decisions that affect their everyday life.
This course introduces key principles that underpin the NDIS, including human rights, person-centred support, dignity of risk and informed consent, and looks at what these principles actually mean in day-to-day support.
Why take this course?
Choice and control is about more than simply asking someone what they want.
Good support creates genuine opportunities for people to make decisions, express their preferences, take reasonable risks and have a meaningful say in how they live their life.
This course explores practical ways support workers can help people understand their options and make their own decisions without unnecessarily stepping in or taking over.
You’ll also look at dignity of risk, respecting a person’s individual values and beliefs, supporting informed consent and understanding how the NDIS Code of Conduct applies to choice and control.
The course also considers the important role support workers play in helping people speak up when something isn’t right, including understanding and accessing complaints processes.
