Course overview
This intermediate course teaches SIL support workers how to apply trauma-informed principles during everyday support.
It explores physical and emotional safety, predictability, trust, consent, collaboration and possible trauma responses. Workers learn how to reduce pressure during distress, respond appropriately to disclosures, document observable information and recognise routines that may unintentionally cause re-traumatisation.
The course also reinforces professional boundaries and reflective practice, helping workers consider how their language, body position, pace and approach can affect a participant’s sense of safety and control.
