Course Overview

Develop practical knowledge to recognise infection risks, reduce the spread of infection and apply appropriate infection prevention practices while supporting people at home, in the community and during everyday activities.

Why take this course?

Preventing the spread of infection is everyone’s responsibility, but it is particularly important for frontline disability support workers who regularly work closely with participants and move between different environments.

This course provides a clear and practical introduction to infection prevention and control within disability support. It explores the everyday actions workers and managers can take to identify infection risks, reduce transmission and respond appropriately when infection is suspected or confirmed.

Importantly, infection prevention is not simply about applying rules. Support workers also need to consider the participant’s rights, choices and individual circumstances when introducing infection control measures in their home or during community activities.

The course explores how infection prevention responsibilities interact with the NDIS Code of Conduct, helping workers understand how to protect themselves and the people they support without unnecessarily limiting a participant’s choice and control.
