Course overview
This intermediate course equips disability support workers to recognise possible abuse, neglect, coercion and exploitation in supported living environments. It explains different forms of harm, behavioural and environmental warning signs, grooming patterns and appropriate responses when a participant raises a concern or makes a disclosure.
Learners practise prioritising immediate safety, listening without conducting an investigation, escalating concerns through authorised reporting pathways, preserving relevant information and producing objective incident records. The course also addresses reportable incidents, confidentiality, participant involvement following a report and the boundaries of the support worker’s role.
