Course Overview

Supporting someone living with post-traumatic stress disorder requires patience, consistency and an understanding of how trauma can affect a person’s sense of safety, communication and response to everyday situations.

This course helps support workers recognise possible trauma responses without making assumptions or attempting to diagnose the person. It explains how predictable routines, respectful communication, genuine choice and appropriate personal space can reduce pressure and support emotional regulation.

Workers will explore practical approaches for responding to distress, offering grounding strategies, respecting consent, maintaining professional boundaries and recognising situations that require clinical, managerial or emergency assistance.

The module also covers privacy, objective documentation and worker wellbeing, helping staff provide calm, person-centred support while remaining within their professional role.
