Disability support work often involves close contact with participants, their families and personal support networks. Workers may enter private homes, learn confidential information and provide assistance during sensitive situations.
These responsibilities require clear professional boundaries. Boundaries protect participants from harm, exploitation and conflicts of interest. They also help workers provide consistent, respectful and accountable support.
This module explains the ethical responsibilities of support workers, identifies signs that boundaries may be becoming unclear and provides practical guidance for responding to challenging situations.
