
Course Overview
Providing medication support is an important responsibility for Support Workers. This course introduces the key principles of safe medication assistance, including your responsibilities, safe medication practices, documentation requirements, storage, and disposal.
You'll also learn about common medication risks, participant choice and control, and how to support people safely while working within your role and organisational policies.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Understand your responsibilities when supporting participants with medication.
- Apply the principles of the NDIS Code of Conduct, including respecting a participant's right to refuse medication.
- Recognise your role when supporting with regular, PRN (as required), and over-the-counter medications.
- Apply the Seven Rights of Medication Support to help reduce medication errors.
- Follow appropriate infection prevention and control practices during medication support.
- Complete medication documentation accurately and in line with organisational requirements.
- Store medications safely and securely.
- Dispose of unwanted or expired medications using the correct procedures.
- Identify where to access additional information and guidance about safe medication support.
